Install – Win2k fails after precopy

by dirtycar74 . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

I have tried multiple configurations.
I have tried multiple HDD.
I have tried different RAM sticks.
I have tried different OS (Win9x-WinXP).
All fail at about the same spot: after the inital pre-copy. For Win2k, the failure occris at “Setup is starting windows 2000”. For Win9x (includes ME), the failure occurs at scandisk. The HDD I have tried in other, working machines, and am able to read/write to the drives with no problem. Only on installation is there a problem. I think my problemis the controller on the motherboard, but just want to get someone else’s thoughts as well. This is a new Intel D815EGEW Motherboard with an Inetl Pentium3 (933mhz) and 256Mb SDRAM (2 sticks of 128Mb). The HDD I *WANT* to install on is a 60Gb Western Digital EIDE/ATA100 Drive. Everything peripheral (ethernet/sound/video/USB) is built into the motherboard, so there is less likely to be a component IRQ conflict, unless there’s something else going on as well (IMHO). Just looking for some other point of view as to what I could focus my attention on next… Thanks in advance.
