Installing Quadro pci-e and 8800 gts pci-e into nforce mobo

Hi all,
I’m considering buying a Quadro FX 1400 and a GeForce 8800 gts for my new nforce-based sli-capable system, which basically means that I have 2 free pci-e ports. Now I know that it is impossible to sli the quadro with the 8800 and that frankly isn’t my intention, my question is, how well does windows xp handle switching beween video cards?

I’ve never installed 2 video cards in one system before but I figure that xp would probably handle them like it handles all other devices, nothing special there I would think. So to make answering this rather vague question simpler I’m looking for a few specific points:

1) Can I simply plug my monitor (or dual monitors or what have you) into one card and then have the other card process GFX commands and data while routing output to the card with the connected monitor/monitors?

2) How do I choose which card is processing video data/gfx commands? do I simply disable one via device manager? infact is it even possible to choose which card is processing (I imagine one should theoretically be able to)

That’s basically all I need to know, I’m a programmer, 3d modeller, and overall game-enthusiast so I’d like to have one system that allows me to perform all these functions well.

Thanks a lot guys, your infinite wisdom is duely appreciated 🙂
