Installing Win98 with new Abit KT7A MB

by katlynnc . Updated 24 years, 12 months ago

I just built a new AMD 1200 Mhz 266 FSB on a Abit Kt7a Board. When I install Win98 the copy process works fine intil windows starts to find PNP hardware and set up the windows enviroment. As it starts to finish the install it tells me that “runonce” has caused and error. I can go on from here but then I get “can not flush registry” and the system stops at a dos screen. I close the dos screen and windows brings up the start menu with the windows setup screen behind. I then restart the system and windows the set up the control panel and etc. All seems fine until I run system file checker and then it tells me I have corupt files. I fix the files and then go on installing the video and the like. Then not to long after that the computertells me that (usually) a rundll32 error at kernel32. At this point it is worthless to try and go on with the system. The latest error that I am getting is EMM386.exe a memory module #### and the system has halted. Any ides on this would be helpful.

Ps. I have used other systems with the same hard drive and have been able to get clean WIN98 installs with no problems.
