IntelliPoint Mouse Problem Sony PCG-731

I removed my IP Mouse from my old computer and installed it on my laptop. The install appeared to go OK. Once I re-started, the mouse pointer went wild. As I moved the mouse, the arrow was all over the screen and it selected several different applications from my desktop to run eventually hanging up the computer. I have a re-loaded and tried it again with the same results. If I disconnect it and restart the computer, then plug it in, it works. Whit have I done wrong or how do I correct my problem?
