Internet connection Causes Network Crash

by npcleere . Updated 22 years, 9 months ago

Hi Everyone

I am a teacher and in our school we have 32 PCs (16 win98 and 16 XP Pro) on a Windows 2000 Server. Internet connection is via routing and remote access in Windows 2000. When the connection is made a huge amount of traffic is generated that eventually prevents internet browsing, and slows down the network dramatically.
The switches flash like a christmas tree!
I have tried various options – a router – same effect. Turn off the internet connection and everything is fine. I have also turned off automatic updates in XP PRO and on the Win2k Server – No difference.

The server setup is as follows:

IP Address of Server: 192.168.173.1
DNS Server : 192.168.173.1
Gateway Address: 192.168.173.9 (Router IP)
DHCP Server: 192.168.173.1

Ip config on worksations provide the same information.

Your hekllp and advice would be very very welcome!

Thank you
