Internet network is not getting detected in my Windows Vista Starter

Hi all,

I am facing a very peculiar problem in my Sony VAIO CR-220E laptop having Windows Vista Starter edition OS.

The problem is that when I plug my internet connection probe into the network port, it is showing ‘Identifying network’ for some time and later it is showing ‘Unidentified network’ and no ‘Globe’ icon is there which usually comes when internet gets connected, at the notification area.

I tried my mobile’s dial-up connection and it is working fine (i thought that the reason for this is, it is a dial-up connection not a modem connection!).

I tried reinstalling my network driver but no result. I even tried system restore option and restored to the oldest restore point that is available but the problem still persists. I also tried network repair option but no use.

Please suggest me the other options which I can try. Does formatting clear this issue.. if not what could solve this. But formatting is a big deal for me as my laptop got many updates through internet like antivirus updates, microsoft updates and etc.

I always keep an eye on virus alerts and malware so i expect that there might not be any virus attack!

Please suggest me something to resolve this issue…

P.S. There were no hardware changes in my laptop. The problem came all of a sudden.

Thank you.

-K
