Internet Printing?

I have never been able to get Internet Printing to work for me. I have tried following all of the different answers found, but it never quite works.

I do an RDP, with a Static IP, into a Windows 2000 Server to access my application from the Internet. And now I need to print from that application to the printer connected to my laptop. Since I am in a Remote connection, I am unable to find my local printer.

I do have the access to my local printer and drives set to allow the access. How do I get my Local Printer to show up as an available printer? I must be missing a very basic step in the process.
