Interviewing for a new position in our dept.

by telecomguy9 . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

Hi everyone. Monday afternoon I’m interviewing for a new job position that has opened up in my department. The interview will include myself, the new director of IT (she’s been with us for about 2 weeks) and with the VP over our department. I know they interviewed someone from outside the company last week and they have another one or two interviews of the same kind this coming week.

Our dept. is small (11 people) and everyone in it that I have talked to about this new position feels I have it in the bag. However, I’m not going to take it for granted at all. I honestly feel like it’s 50/50 – I could get it or I could be denied. I admittedly don’t have the hands-on technical skills that someone else coming from outside the company will likely have. However, I have been working in the dept. for 7 years, my job duties and responsibilities have certainly grown over that time, and I have just finished my Master’s degree in the area that this new position covers.

I have no idea what to expect. I don’t know if I should expect a difficult interview, an easy interview, behavioral interview questions, “softball” questions, etc. I’m going to prepare for anything. I’m coming here to see if anyone who has been in this kind of situation has any advice for how to proceed, for how to interview in this type of setting, etc.

Any thoughts, experiences and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
