Is hiring an IT Consultant worth it? What is your experience?

I was just reading an article about the benefits of bringing on an IT consultant for my small business: https://www.itaccuracy.com/blog/ways-it-consulting-is-beneficial-for-your-business/

These all make sense to me. But the cost is still an issue. Does anyone had experiences that lead you to believe IT consulting was not worth it?
