Is it OK to tell the recruiter that I am without job now ?

I had to resign from my previous job because of a family emergency.

Now I am being contacted by many recruiters and companies. As soon as they learn that I am unemployed now, they change their approach. Like trying to bring down salary as much as possible.

Is there an way to get around this ?
