I am trying to find out if my company is getting shafted by their licensing situation with a software company.
We recently migrated our server to a new box. The company that we bought our server 2007 licenses from says that we now need to pay $5200 for more licenses.
We have about 20 employees. They each have a computer running Exchange Server, either Outlook 2000 or 2003.
We have an old server, a backup server and our current server. The backup and current server are identical hardware.

Is there any reason we would need to pay for more licensing? Can’t we just transfer the license from one computer to another?
We are currently running MS Server 2003 on the server. We downgraded since most users are using 2003 or earlier, and were told it would be cheaper to do it this way.
I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of licensing Server 2007, nor even my IT dept.’s server setup, but I will do my best to fill in any blanks if you have questions.
