This is a weird question, but I can’t seem to find any resources. We are a small company, with about 7 employees. They have had a windows server set up for several years (prior to my being hired), running Server 2003 Enterprise, and I am attempting to compile a list of what software we have, what we might need, etc.
I have zero documentation about anything, including the number of CALs we have to access the server. I was assured that we have licenses, but I’m not sure management understands how CALs work and that you need one for every computer that accesses the server, even if its just to log on to the domain. The computers are all brand-name, so I can be reasonably sure that they are legit as far as the installed version of Windows.
The answer is probably no, but is there any way to check somehow what licenses we have? I’m dreading if I have to tell management that they need to spend $X on licenses for what they already think is legit… in fact, if it came down to that I’m not sure I could persuade them to shell out the money at all. But without any actual proof that we have the necessary licenses, it doesn’t matter what they claim, right?
