Hi all,
Windows 2000.
Everything was up and running then I downloaded and ISO file, checked it for virus but everything was OK.
I downloaded a copy of the Daemon tool which acts like a virtual disc. This replaces having to burn on to an external disk and opens up the ISO files.
Just into the process the computer re-booted on it’s own.I got up my splash windows 2000 screen then it went blue and just stopped.
I left it and after an hour or so it asked me for my password, but it took another twenty minutes before it would actually take my pass and then it told me that my domain was unavailable(whatever that means)
I did a few things including re-configuring the system to the last workable defaults and also repair mode.Nothing worked.
During this process I also noticed that the other computer I have on this small home network was unable to get on to the net(but otherwise it worked fine.Incidently I replaced this computer with an XP box and that worked fine)however a third computer working windows 2000 was not effected.but this one was going stright to the router not via a hub.
In the end I decided to go for format and re-installing windows 2000.This was fine until I tried to get on the network and net.( I have a small home network of 4 computers)
I keep getting up the message that my “network cable is unplugged(but it isn’t).
I Have tried cable swopping, swopped the ports on the hub,I have unistalled and then re-installed the network card drivers(the network cards are on board and cannot be detatched). The lights are on the hubs thus indicating a physical connection
In essence I have tried all the traditional approaches that have worked in the past.
But my computers still refuse to acknowlede the fact that they are on the network.
I don’t know a lot about this but could anyone point me towards something else I can do,and is there a possibility that this could be a virus lurking about on the mother board or an area of the computer that is not effected by re-installing the operating system.
Regards
Jim
