ISO archive

I have heard someone suggest the archiving of ISO images of multi-seat/site licensed software CDs as a safeguard against data loss.

Is this advisable? One the one hand, if the original CDs are lost, then the means to create a replacement CD is readily available. But then on the other hand, if culprit was to access the archive, then the piracy could happen. With that, would having ISO archive be wise?
