IT and Wireless communications

I have just recently decided to go back to college and take advantage of my employers re=imbursement program. I was just wondering if the IT industry has any relation to the Wireless Data. I am really excited to go back to school and earn a degree in something. I have heard that the IT industry is a challenging place to find work. I would like to stay in the wireless industry due to the popularity and $$ potential. Is IT a good place to start.
