I like the energy industry, thats why I got into Cisco networking because it is a vital “utility” to the world and I think its cool I am going up in the ranks as a CCNA; administrating very important utility such as the internet. So to have a job working in the biggest utility such as energy industries, specifically OIL would be very cool. Yet I am finding it very difficult to find IT positions at oil or energy companies. I signed up with OIL employment opportunities and this guy Matt emails me everyday to give him $60 bucks to become a member so I can get juicy info on open oil positions. Well, problem is; I don?t think he realizes I am an IT guy and not an OIL rig dude. I even tried to submit my resume to an offshore oil rig company they rejected it because it had no oil anything on my resume, kind of funny. So how realistic is it to get a Cisco job with an energy corp? Does energy corps even have an IT dept usually? Or do they just out source it all? Is there a resource available specifically for IT professionals wanting to work in the enegery industry?
