Jumpy cursor

Several of my laptop end-users have experienced their cursor “JUMPING” while using MS Office 97 Pro Word. They are careful NOT to hit their touch pads or keyboard pointer knub. One woman stated her husband thought it might be “mad mouse disease”.McAfee is up-to-date with DAT’s & Scan Engine. Any advice would be appreciated.
