Keyboard stops working during Xp install

The keyboard works fine up until I get to the screen where I hit enter to install or R….. How can I fix this issue? Its a old Dell optiplex GX280. I whipped the drive using kill disk due to a bad virus and now trying to re-install and the keyboard is preventing me. USB and no PS2 connection.
