Lan Internet

I am connected on a router but I want to assign my own IP address not the one given by the router.I changed my IP and used the same gateway as the router.But still dont internet
Do I have to put something on the DNS

my current add

IP=192.168.1.56
Subnet=255.255.255.0
Gateway=192.168.1.1

DNS I am not sure
Please help
