I have a client with a simple local area Ethernet
network consisting of three desktop PCs, a Linksys
four port hub/router and a DSL Modem. One PC is
running Windows 2000, the second PC is running
Windows ME and the third is running Windows 98.
I can’t change this due to licensing restrictions.
I have followed the network setup instructions
for each of the PCs carefully, allowing the router
to act as the DHCP “server”, assigning IP addresses to each PC automatically. I have activated file and printer sharing on all PCs
and have verified that each PC can ping its NIC
card. The Windows 2000 PC is the only one that can
access the Internet. It cannot find the other PCs
on the LAN. The Windows ME and Windows 98 PC can
neither access the Internet nor can they find the
other PCs on the network. I have tested all the
Ethernet cables and all are good. The operating
systems on all PsC are running fine, with no
hardware conflicts. The DSL modem seems to work
fine, but only with the Windows 2000 PC. Any help
would be appreciated. Can’t believe the solution
can be that difficult.
