laptop cannot log on to network but sees mapped drives

I have a Dell laptop with XP SP2. When you log on you get the error “The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed in correct case.” I’ve tried this with several different user accounts and they don’t work but are fine through other workstations.

If you log on to the laptop locally you can get the Internet and it can map drives to the server as if it was on the domain. Windows firewall is turned off on the laptop and it is running symantec antivirus. Any ideas?
