I bought a BenQ 2100E Joybook in Hong Kong in March 2005. They changed the language to English and it has run perfectly fine. This past weekend my grandkids were watching a DVD on the laptop and it “froze” – the next thing that happened is the whole laptop is in Chinese. I have tried everything to change it back, even F10 to recover, but obviously it is going back to the original state and won’t allow me to change the language in control panel either. I took it to IT guys at work and they used Norton and still couldn’t get it to change language to English. Confounding the problem is the fact that I don’t have recovery disk 1 but have 2 and 3 with applications and drivers. I called BenQ and emailed, but they say I need to contact Microsoft. I called Microsoft to try to purchase an English version of Windows XP Home Edition – they first told me to call BenQ, then told me to call Microsoft Hong Kong, which I did. They kept asking me for the PID which I can’t see because I don’t read Chinese. The laptop works perfectly fine, just in Chinese. Can anybody tell me what to do?
