Laptop Disaster Recovery

I am investigating backup solutions for laptops and would like to
ask what other medium to large sized company admins are
doing.

Our management seems to prefer the portable hard disk or
DVD-R approach. I argue that that method has no
accountability or version control, and I would rather see us go
with a block-level centralized solution such as Brightstor for
Laptops and Desktops. The brightstor solution is much more
complicated to price out though, due to bandwidth
requirements.

Are you guys using mobile backup devices or synchronized
folders or something else? What do you like or dislike about the
solution? What do your users, managers, and auditors say about
it?
