laptop display problem

i bought a laptop (acer aspire 5510) recently. 1 month ago, when i switched on the laptop, everything seem to work but the monitor is black. i tried to switch on and off for a few times and finally it came back normal. what is the cuase of this problem? Can it be due to virus? will upgrading RAM causing any display problem?
