laptop IDE hard disk

I have a standard 2.5 inch IDE hard disk in my laptop, all is well until my laptop died recently. Now I need to get the data on the laptop to a desktop. I bought a IDE 2.5 conversion cable, but I set a harddisk password on the drive, how do I get round this problem (I still remember the password, but don’t have a spare laptop)
