Laptop LCD Monitor flickers like a dying florescent light bulb

by tstorm82 . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

I have an issue concerning an LCD laptop monitor. I’ve read all sorts of things about what causes (monitor to flicker). I’ve recently tested the monitor output video signal from my laptop into an LCD HD TV monitor using the S-Video out connection.

Here are some facts:

-I have a Toshiba Qosmio f25

-It uses a Geforce go 6600 graphics card
which can still play most of today’s games, only now starting to fall behind. The Graphics card is manufactured by NVIDIA, with software written by Toshiba.

-Visiting NVIDIA only to turn out that there is no download updates for this driver and to visit this website for more information. Once there its this company over in Twain that doesn’t have any place obvious to see drivers upload.

-I’ve adjusted my refresh rate, and see the monitor can only handle 60.

-I’ve attempted to try to download display drivers from the website.

===============================================
Here is the symptoms:

Flickers for a long time, primarily after it boots to the desktop.

If I adjust the LCD screen to a certain angle such as almost closed or all the way back, it quits.

If I gently press and hold it in …(press it in a certain spot) it quits (for as long as some mild pressure is added). If I tap the sides, it quits (as long as I’m tapping the sides).

It’s not done it yet, after connecting S-Video cables to the TV set (see I have to clone the views).

I’m started to suspect there’s something going on with the connection from the laptop to the screen. Or some sort of internal failure. At one time my screen just went completely black (like the back lit) portion that.

I also have a theory that the power saving settings (the Toshiba written version) to control things like CPU, Monitor brightness and what not).

Toshiba has some drivers, but to the best of my knowledge I have the latest drivers from Toshiba.com

See like today it’s done it all day, from 1130a from the time I woke up to 830p, got in and resumed the laptop from stand-by and it quits. I strongly fear its more so drivers and such. I begin to wonder if perhaps if the hinges are too tight. Sometimes when the PC monitor flickers, and pressing on the bottom, like one area will be normal and the lighting of one end will be dimmer. It seems to effect the (back lit display) and not the monitor itself

I’ve read articles about the 5 common things, from CRT’s and the other article about LCD monitor vs CRT monitors (the common problems).

I’ve considered buying a new LCD monitor (like for desktop PC’s) on Ebay, but 🙂 that’s a lot to carry around lol, sort of defeats the purpose of being mobile.

I wonder if it could be the battery? Cause I know my battery is old, see I got it in 2006; and the battery only lasts 45 min tops.

Is there an expert who can help me, see I know computers fairly well. Is there some sort of a test I can run. See I have Microsoft Windows XP (Media Center 2005) with service pack 3 …and all of the latest updates for Windows XP.

Thanks.
