Laser Printing from DOS

I want to print a simple text to a laser printer. This can be either from DOS or Windows. I do not want to use any Reporting software. My question is if knowing PCL commands is enough to print a formatted text reort? Is there anything like Epson Escape Codes of Dot Matrix Era in Laser world?
