Laserjet 5N paper tray issues

I have a LJ5N that will only pick up from tray 3 unless I have tray 3 locked. I am trying to get it to print to tray 2 first, and this is the only way currently to do it. I know it is a hardware issue, as it does the same thing on a self test. I have tried changing the config menu to pickup from both the ‘first’ setting as well as the ‘cassette’ setting. Any suggestions?
