I recently fixed a PCMCIA NIC problem when I discovered that the NIC and another application were apparently using the same memory block. Windows 98 Device Manager memory resources indicate that the memory block is used by PCMCIA Card Services withno conflicts. I fixed the problem by uninstalling the NIC drivers, reserving the specified memory block, then reinstalling the NIC drivers. This caused the memory block used by PCMCIA Card Services to move and now the network interface is solid. Win98 Device Manager | Computer | Properties | Reserve Resources indicates that the conflicting memory block is already reserved. Win95 resource reservations said something about problems if the reservation remains, but I am not inclined to reload Win95 to check the wording. The network interface works without the reservation. If I update the driver, I will probably forget to add back the reservation so I prefer to leave it. Does it matter that I leave the memory block reservation or should I remove it?
