Linksys Router Setup with Small Network

by lt1transamgt . Updated 23 years, 7 months ago

I have a Windows 2000 Server and about 10 computers running NT, 2000, and 98. I also have a cable modem with dynamic addressing. I have the server running DHCP server also and the scheme of addresses is 10.0.0.X with a subnet of 255.0.0.0. I am trying to set up a Linksys BEFSX41 cable/dsl firewall/router but the only options I see are for different subnets like 255.255.255.0 and others, but not mine. Also, everytime I try to change the ip address of the router from 192.168.1.1 I can no longer access the setup program in the router. Can my network computers see the router if I keep the 192.168.1.1 address? What subnet would I need to keep in the router? Would I then make sure the computers all have the 192.168.1.1 address for their gateways? Please tell me your suggestions with this hardware. I know a real roouter like Cisco is better and has more options but this is all I have to work with.
Thanks.
