Linux networking

Hello
I have installed Fedora Core 4 Server on my desktop. I have been having a problem with getting to internet on it though. I have put a static IP that should of been working and it would not find an IP automaticly through DHCP. If some one can tell me how to fix it or do somthing to get it up and running it would be wonderful.
