Hello people,
To start this topic I am looking for suggestions on some few basic things. For start I will describe current situation. Our company runs Windows on all machines. Now my proposal is next.
Software side:
Microsoft Exchange alternative (must have mailboxes that multiple users can read and work on) / Linux ??? (never got that far) IMPORTANT!
This must work, company can’t run without this!
example mailboxes like: sales, groups, finance… so that users can work on emails check that and put some indication that they have been read. (to avoid users doing double work!)
Print Server on Windows (what software to use) / Linux (looked at printer database (CUPS) haven’t found compatible printers for ones we have). So I thought I could make a Windows print Server so Linux clients could connect and print (something like printer emulation) IMPORTANT!
Windows Fax Server running ActiveFax (really nice software) / Linux ??? (Have not yet called the company if it has Linux Software that could connect to Active Fax on Windows). IMPORTANT!
Hardware side:
Old PCs. Windows98 and XP (working really slow). On Linux I think they will work faster.
Linux disro: Thinking about something simple like Ubuntu or Slackware, Fedora maybe….
I got a lot of work so I have little time to find alternative software to make these things work.
Any tips or solutions I am glad to hear from you.
Thank you in forward If you took time to read this.
