Locked out

My mother n law recently bought a computer out the paper. The gentlemen said that they were old school computers he upgraded. She brought it to me to make sure it had everything she needed. Well I can’t get in. I am in school for my degree in Information Network Technology and thought I could handle it. But this thing is locked with a password as soon as it boot. Does anyone have any suggestions?
