Logical drive FAILED disk status all shows OK

HP-DL380 G3

6*146GB drives in RAID 5 arrary.

For some reason, the OS has been merged with the data into one large array, as opposed to leaving the OS on a mirrored pair. They have used all disks in the array and no hot spare…

From iLO access, it appears that a disk has failed, and prevented the OS from being bootable (not sure how as this is in a RAID 5 configuration, so thinking its possibly the array controller).

Someone has chosen to rebuild the disk and the OS boots again, but after a short period, failure occurs again.

When looking in the ilo management tools, it shows that possibly 2 disks have failed, but cant confirm this.

The bios on bootup, shows that the logical drive has a ‘FAILED’ status, but the physical drives within the array show up as ‘OK’.

As im in London, and the server is in Miami, physical access is somewhat limited 😉 I can possibly get someone to put a smartstart CD in to run diags on the array. Anyone had similar experiences??
