logon rejected with regular boot; accepted in safe mode!

Very old laptop: P2,XP pro, 256 MB Ram
FF 1.5.011.

My password is no longer accepted
during regular logon. I get a notice saying that the domain “jones” isn’t available. When I attempt the same log on in safe mode, there is no domain problem and I can log on. I can only use the computer in safe mode.

Originally, the computer name was Robert; I changed it to “jones” for logon purposes. I use anti spyware, firewall and anti virus software; plus up to problem would do my surfing with sandboxie.

Spybot S & D recently found SPYsheriff, which I had Spybot S & D quarantine. Interesting, when I rebooted later that day, that’s when the problem started. Is there a possible relationship of SPYsheriff’s removal to my logon problem?

Any suggestions??
