Losing connection to server?

by rmangus . Updated 15 years, 3 months ago

Hi all-

I have a small Windows network set up in my office running Windows 2k3 with a domain. There are 6 workstations, all running Windows XP Pro. We use the server as a file and print server, as well as a DNS server and domain controller.

We’re having a problem with our workstations losing their connection to the server after X hours, wherein they have no access to printers or mapped drives. Internet connectivity is still good, but the workstation cannot talk to the server. We’ve had this problem since we set up the server several months ago, so nothing has changed recently to cause this problem.

I have not been able to get an exact duration as to when the session times out, but I believe it is somewhere around 8 hours. Once connectivity to the server is lost, the user must log out to re-authenticate to the server in order to restore the connection to file and print services.

My question is, do any of you know why this is happening or is there is a switch I need to turn on/off to prevent this from happening? I feel like I’ve searched everywhere for the answer, including each user profile in the AD and made sure there is no limit to session length. Nothing seems to correct the problem.

Thanks for your help!
