Losing Mail Messages

I have a situation where two users were sharing folders. UserA shared folders with userB. UserB moved forwarded messages from userA’s shared folders to his (userB) new directory structure. When userB deleted the shared folder from his account, all read messages disappeared, and continue to do so if he opens unread mail. Can this mail be recovered? How do I prevent this from continuing.Can users not share forwarded mail?
