LPT1 Port Not Functioning???

Please, I need help. I have a Sony laptop computer (PCG-F350). With my printer attached to LPT1, I am unable to print. Also, I run a program that requires a security device be attached to LPT1. However, I am unable to access the program and I amreceiving an error message telling me that no security device is found at LPT1 when in fact there is a security device attached. I think I may have a bad port. Is there a way to fix and/or replace the LPT1 port? And, if so, what steps would be recommended to accomplish such a task?
