Lunix Mail Utility

Hello Everyone, We have a backup server at our location (Research Center) that runs SUSE 9.2 Linux server. I need a mailing utility that can send an email to an external SMTP Server. I previously used mailx utility which works fine when i send an email form Gmail to another Gmail accounts. However, when i use official emails that provided by school, mailx utility simply dons not work. I Know for a fact that the schools uses Exchange server. This problem is driving me craze and i need some help here.
