Mac and modem…

A neighbor down the street has a Mac. laptop computer, Powebook 3400C. She recently encountered a lightning strike that left her original modem fried, she went and purchased a new one. She encountered problems that the modem was not there, the error message said. She returned the modem and it cameback with a clean bill-of-health. Therefore the modem is not the culprit and, incidently, neither is the phone line. I’m not a Mac-man but, it seems to me the original COM port settings were messed-up. She is unable to access your site and therefore ask the question so, I’m asking for her and through her.
