Mac OS X server v10.3 boots into “Darwin only” after Apple SW update

by techrepublic . Updated 19 years, 6 months ago

Dear forum,
After an automatic software update from Apple, my Mac OS X server version 10.3 now boots into a text-only screen. The GUI does no longer start.

Did some tech stuff go wrong or is Apple causing this because soms license has expired. Which i cannot even see, because it doesn’t start.

At the Darwin prompt I can login as root; that works.
But I cannot login as “admin”. If I login as admin, the prompt just returns without any error.

Has anybody got a clue ?
I a few months time I will wipe this server off anyway, but I would like to learn and understand the cause.

At the moment I booted the machine into OS9.

Marc
