Machine names invisible in Win2k

by donoghue . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

I’m running Win2000 on two machines, and one NT 4.0 on an internal LAN on a 10 MHZ hub. I then connect that hub via a NAT device to the internet. All 3 can see internet with no problem. INtermittently, though, one or both of the 2000 machines will be unable to browse the network using machine names. Each machine can ping the other using internal IP addresses, and can even map to drives using the IP address. BUT, cannot see or use the other machine’s machine name. The “invisible” machine cannot browse the network at all in Explorer – get the error “Workgroup is not accessible. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.” However, the invisible machine can ping its own machine name! Finally, the other 2 visible machines, can browse each others drives without problem, using machine name or IP address. Am I missing something really obvious here?
