Maintaining a Network Connect with XP

I have a, non-profit, group where we have a few pcs, less than 10 networked.
The problem is that the network connection doesn’t hold after log off/shut down.
I can re-establish for each PC the network connection to the main PC each time after log on. How do I set up the network connection so that it stays connected after shutdown?
