Making XP Restore Floppy

How do I make a Floppy for “XP restore”?
I think I have followed the directions which say in effect that a mirror of the system will be saved on the HD and then a startup disket will be formatted and written. But what actually happens is that all of the mirror wants to be written on the floppy – obviously impossible. I desperatly need this because everytime I try to download SP1 it clobbers my entire system requiring a total manual reloading of everything.
