Map server drive from a remote location

With Novell 4.11 through TCP/IP, is it possible to map a drive on the server from home? Whenever I use \\servername\\drivename, I receive an error that “The network name is either incorrect, or on a network to which you do not have full access”. Someone told me it was impossible to do this… is that correct?
