MBA or CIS for DBA?

by ags3660 . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

I’m finishing up a B.S. in IT this May and have that I want to eventually become a database administrator. At this point, I have two options: MBA between a couple different universities or a MS in CIS at Boston University with a concentration in DB oriented classes.

Here’s a couple things though. I never really want to be in a managerial position or lead a team or become a CIO so you might think it’s an obvious choice. However, I do understand the chaos in the IT industry and the fact that I have little work experience is a problem.

The other side of the issue is that I eventually want to teach IT oriented material but I need work experience before I can do that obviously. Because you need experience to get professor positions and because it’s relatively hard getting a entry level job IT (especially DBA) job wouldn’t a MBA boost my chances over a CIS in this respect?
