Microsoft Access and IP address

I have an access database that is on a File Server. This DB is mapped to a network drive via \\servername\location. When I try to access the file via \\IP Address\location, the file does not open. Can anyone give me insight as to why this is? OR what areas in the database I need to check? Thank you.
