Microsoft Transaction Server

I am using Small Business Server4.5, SQL Server, with 5 workstations. A developer has written an application that will access the SQL db and infact does everything the MTS(Microsoft Tranaction Server) will do. I don’t know the effects the redundancy will have. MTS is more of an enterprise server and I have only 5 workstations. Do I have to use MTS? Is there a way I can by pass it?
