Microtest Pentascanner+ firmware upgrade

I have an old Pentascanner+ with software version 4.30 with firmware ver 2.01 . It is not y2k and cannot test cat. 5e cable. I wish to upgrade the software to version 5.00.
When I try to validate EEPROM with command “penta -c2 -v” it returns a message the EEPROM checksum is invalid.
When I try to reflash … it will hang up until
status : starting fast reflasher.
How long could I wait ?
What I am should do next ?
Should I upgrade the firmware before the software?
Please somebody help me…….
