We are planning (finally) on upgrading our SBS 2000 server to a 2003 std edition. I looked all over and only saw a few cryptic documents on how to do it. I was wondering if anybody had done this and if you would be willing to share your experience with me.
That SBS server is our AD and DHCP. It also has several file shares and runs our Sales Force software as well as our internet store. I also have 2 Server 2003, one with exchange and the other running our VoIP
I was thinking of 2 things beside the 2 step upgrade proposed in MS whitepapers.
1- Promoting one of the 2K3 and demoting the sbs, I know it’s not supposed to be done but I think that it should work for a few days. Then upgrade the SBS2K with the 2003 and promoting that one back to DC.
2- Moving the DC from Physical to virtual (MS Virtual Server). Then install 03 on that server and promote that one as DC.
Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patrick
